JM = MJ (Smokeable Portrait and Canvas Holder)

This was my first mixed media piece that incorporated a smokeable element to a canvas.  Growing up outside of NYC in the 90s I was surrounded by Basquiat imagery, so when I got an opportunity to create a piece for Terp Basel 2025 I knew exactly what the focus would be.  This is an homage to Basquiat's work under the pseudonym SAMO, the text and quotes embedded in this come from my life, the focal quote being "All men are created equal" which is a reference to a quote my ancestor Filipo Mazzei said to Thomas Jefferson and then became the guiding principle for this country.

Canvas is 24in x 12 in and the removable joint should hold around 3 ounces (does not come filled)
